Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find your answer below? Call our office or send us a message through the contact page.

Call our Southgate office at (734) 887-6686 Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Same-week appointments are often available.
It depends on your insurance plan. Many plans allow direct access to dermatologists without a referral. However, some HMO plans require a referral from your primary care physician. We recommend checking with your insurance carrier before your first visit. Our staff can also help answer questions when you call to schedule.
New patient appointments typically run 30–45 minutes, including a review of your medical history and a thorough skin examination. Follow-up appointments are usually 15–20 minutes. Procedures like mole removals, cyst removals, or Mohs surgery may require more time — our team will give you a more specific timeframe when you schedule.
A full-body skin exam is a comprehensive head-to-toe evaluation of your skin. Dr. Qiblawi will examine every area of your skin using a dermatoscope — a magnifying device that helps detect early cancerous or pre-cancerous changes. You'll wear a gown during the exam. The whole process typically takes about 15–20 minutes and is painless.
Yes. Mohs surgery is performed right here in our office under local anesthesia — no hospital stay required. Dr. Qiblawi removes the cancerous tissue in stages, examining each layer under a microscope the same day to confirm all cancer cells have been removed. Most patients return home the same day. Plan to set aside several hours for the procedure.
In most cases, no special preparation is needed. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. If you take blood thinners (aspirin, warfarin, ibuprofen), please let our office know in advance — Dr. Qiblawi will advise whether to temporarily stop them. Eat normally before your procedure, stay hydrated, and bring your insurance card and ID.
Call our office directly to request a refill. Please allow 2–3 business days for refill processing. For controlled substances, an in-person or telehealth visit may be required before a refill can be issued.
We ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows us to offer the time slot to another patient who may be waiting. Please call our office to cancel or reschedule.
Yes, we see patients 12 years of age and older. Common concerns we treat in this age group include acne, eczema, molluscum contagiosum, and warts. A parent or legal guardian must accompany patients under 18 to all appointments.
