Accessibility Statement
Our Commitment
Summit Dermatology PLLC is committed to ensuring that our website, www.summitdermcare.com, is accessible to all people, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to health care information and services, and we are actively working to ensure our digital presence meets or exceeds accessibility standards.
Standards We Target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Our website is designed to comply with:
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III
- Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA Success Criteria
Accessibility Features on This Website
We have implemented the following accessibility features:
Navigation and Structure
- Skip navigation link — A "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page, allowing keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation
- Consistent navigation — The same navigation structure appears on every page
- Semantic HTML — Proper use of headings (H1–H3), lists, and landmarks (nav, main, footer) to communicate page structure
- Descriptive page titles — Each page has a unique, descriptive title
Visual Design
- Color contrast — Text and background color combinations meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Color is not used alone — Information is not conveyed by color alone
- Resizable text — Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Responsive design — The website is fully functional on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop screens of all sizes
Images and Media
- Alternative text — All meaningful images include descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes
- ARIA labels — Interactive elements include ARIA labels where native labels are not available
- Embedded maps — Google Maps iframes include title attributes for screen reader identification
Keyboard Accessibility
- Full keyboard navigation — All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard (Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys)
- Visible focus indicators — Keyboard focus is clearly visible on all interactive elements
- Logical focus order — Focus moves through the page in a logical, meaningful sequence
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas are currently being improved:
- Embedded Google Maps — The Google Maps iframes embedded on our contact and home pages are provided by a third-party service. While we have added descriptive titles and "Get Directions" links as text alternatives, full accessibility of the interactive map controls is dependent on Google's platform.
- PDF documents — Any PDF documents linked from this website may not be fully accessible. If you need information from a PDF in an accessible format, please contact us.
